Little Joys in Training

Today while Long Lining Victor, I introduced 2 trot caveletti.  Victor can be spooky about things on the ground so I felt this would be a good training device to incorporate while also assisting with gymnastic exercises.
We started slow and I led Victor through the exercise first and then asked him to go by himself.  He attempted to bulge the right which is a common evasion for Victor so I was excited to address his effort!

With long lines, the reins can tighten when the horse stops moving forward.  Imagine my body staying in place and Victor moving sideways away from me.  The release occurs the moment he steps straight forward and this is a great lesson for him!  I was REALLY happy when, once Victor realized I wanted him to move forward, he softened his jaw visibly and began slobbering doubly!!!  He figured out what I wanted from him and then found another level of relaxation within himself - what a wonderful moment!  After that moment, he stepped right through the caveletti without hesitation in both directions!
